Cambodian Beach Motorbike Tour from Phnom Penh to Sihanouk Ville – Tour Itinerary
DAY 1: CAMBODIAN BEACH MOTORBIKE TOUR – KAMPOT MOTORCYCLE TOUR (B,L,D)
You will be picked up from your hotel around 8am and started a motorbike trip to our depot, known to all as the Hog House, approximately 12kms from the centre of the city in the village of Takmau. Here we will have a basic breakfast, finalize paperwork, go over our bikes and answer any queries. In departing from our depot you will avoid most of the craziness that is Phnom Penh traffic. We leave Takmao around 10am and take a motorbike through the countryside to Takeo. Here we stop for a short drinks break in the centre of Takeo town. From Takeo, we continue onto Kampot.
Suggestions: Here we book into our hotel. You have a choice of two hotels, the historical Bokor Mountain Lodge with (6)rooms upstairs and bar/restaurant downstairs or the more modern Rikitikitavi with (4)rooms downstairs and bar restaurant upstairs. Both are small so we may end up occupying both. Don’t worry about location as they are both on the riverside and approximately 25 metres apart.
You will have a few hours to relax or explore the area, perhaps even a short 16km trip to the beach at Kep for a dip in the ocean. That night we’ll have a dinner at a Khmer restaurant on the river for dinner and a few drinks. After dinner perhaps a few drinks at a few of the bars in Kampot such as the Rusty Keyhole (a personal favorite of mine) then off to bed.
DAY 2: CAMBODIAN BEACH MOTORBIKE TOUR – KAMPOT MOTORBIKE TOUR TO SIHANOUK VILLE (B, D)
We depart Kampot around 10am after breakfast at the Rusty Keyhole bar and restaurant. We ride relatively quiet roads until we reach Route 4. Route 4 is the shortest route from Phnom Penh to Sihanouk Ville and warned, it can get quite hectic. Just before Sihanouk Ville we will stop off at the K’bal Chhay waterfalls. The waterfalls are about 10 kms off the road along a dirt track. In the wet season we may organize our escort vehicle to bring us back later as the road may be quite muddy.
We then ride our motorcyles into Sihanouk Ville where we check into the Reef Resort. From here you are free to relax by the pool or walk to the nearby beaches. That night we will head to Treasure Island, a Khmer seafood restaurant on a deserted beach. Then the rest of the night is yours to enjoy the nightlife that is Sihanouk Ville.
DAY 3: CAMBODIAN BEACH MOTORBIKE TOUR – MOTORCYCLE TOUR AROUND SIHANOUK VILLE (B)
Day 3 is a lazy day indeed. You may like to just relax on the beach. It’s unnecessary to leave the Reef Resort, perhaps a day by the pool. If you’re a bit more energetic, your guide will be more than happy to show you around Sihanouk Ville or even organize an excursion to Strung Hav, a small fishing village 30 kms from town. Strung Hav is famous among local expats for its simple but tasty seafood restaurant.
Once again the road is dirt and in the wet season it’s not the place to take a motorbike, still your guide can organize another way to get there if you desire. Be it a trail bike or in our escort vehicle. You’re also free to explore the area and its fine beaches.
DAY 4: CAMBODIAN BEACH MOTORBIKE TOUR – SIHANOUK VILLE TO KRUNG KEP (B, L, D)
We leave Sihanouk Ville but never fear, we don’t say goodbye to Cambodia’s beaches just yet. We depart the Reef Resort after breakfast and take a ride back to Kampot. After a drinks break in Kampot, we will ride a motorbikes for the short distance to Krung Kep. In Kampot we decide whether to have lunch at Kristian’s Rusty Keyhole (where the BBQ ribs are famous throughout the Kingdom) or, after a drink, we make a ride to Kep for seafood (where the seafood is famous throughout the Kingdom) Kep was once the darling of elite Cambodians before Sihanouk Ville became Cambodia’s number one beach destination.
In Kep we check into the Beach House, a splendid hotel set in the hills overlooking the ocean. Here you can enjoy the pool or walk down to the beach. That night we will have a dinner at a Khmer seafood restaurant. There are getting to be more drinking establishments in Kep, but maybe a swim or quiet beer back at the Beach House is the best way to finish our last night before Phnom Penh.
DAY 5: CAMBODIAN BEACH MOTORBIKE TOUR – MOTORCYCLE PACKAGE BACK TOWARDS PHNOM PENH (B, L, D – A BBQ)
We are in no hurry to take a motorcycles around the 150 odd kilometres back to the Hog House. Maybe an early breakfast followed by an hour or two on the beach. We’ll check out around noon, and then have lunch at another Khmer seafood restaurant. After lunch we begin the final leg of our tour. We’ll return at the Hog House in Takmau well before dark with a few drinks, a swim and a BBQ before you are dropped off at your hotel that evening in Phnom Penh.
End of Services!
Notes: All prices are per bike. If you are traveling 2 up on your motorbike, there is an extra fee of $25/day to cover meals. If an extra room is requested, it will be charged at cost price, upon arrival at the hotel. This trip was a trail bike trip until recently. In fact the road and bridges from Kampot to Route 4 were only finished in the last 12 months. Extra day/s can be included where possible on request. Maybe an extra day in Sihanouk Ville or an overnight detour to the Thai border town of Koh Kong.
When Motorcycle we stay in friendly hotel, guesthouse or homestays. Some are more basic than others! Bear in mind that some of the places we overnight in are not on the standard tourist trail. In larger cities and towns, our hotels are generally more western style and are three or four hotels or resort. Please do not expect the same standard as you would your home.
Homestay in the villages is simple interm of bedding condition and ementies. We will sleep on beds or floor with mattress, clean sheet, pillow and mosquito nets. Toilet is usually western style.
